Welcome to MarkNote (the “App” or “we”). We value your privacy. This policy explains how the App handles information related to you.
1. Overview
MarkNote is an AI-assisted planning and Markdown notes app. The App does not require you to register an account with your name, phone number, or email. Your notes, plans, and personal profile data are primarily stored in a workspace folder you choose (typically an iCloud Drive folder), which you fully control.
To provide AI quota management, membership subscriptions, Token packs, and other paid services, the App uses the MarkNote backend service operated by us. It distinguishes users through a device-generated anonymous identifier and processes quotas, wallet balances, and purchase records. If you use the MarkNote backend AI service, conversation content is forwarded through our servers to third-party large language models. Before data is sent to third-party AI or cloud speech services, the App identifies the data and recipient and asks for your consent.
2. Information We Collect and Process

2.3 Data Processed by the MarkNote Backend Service
When you use AI quotas, membership subscriptions, Token packs, or related features, the backend may process:
- An anonymous identifier (
client_uuid) and account/login tokens issued from it - Token wallet balances, sources, consumption records, usage metadata, and timestamps
- App Store transaction JWS, transaction IDs, and product IDs used to verify purchases
- Membership free-session usage and conversation counts
- Conversation content when using the MarkNote backend AI service, forwarded to third-party model providers; we record billing metadata such as token counts and do not use conversation content beyond providing the service
We do not sell this information or use it for advertising. The anonymous identifier does not directly identify you.
2.4 System Permissions
- Microphone: Record voice for AI conversations.
- Speech recognition: Convert speech to text; Apple system recognition is used when no third-party provider is configured.
- Notifications: Send local reminders synchronized with
@remindtask lines.
The App does not request location, camera, photo library, contacts, calendar, Bluetooth, App Tracking, or similar permissions.
2.5 Information We Do Not Actively Collect
- We do not collect account information that directly identifies you, such as your name, phone number, or email.
- Apple processes payments; we do not access or store bank card or payment account information.
- We do not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not perform cross-app tracking.
3. Information Shared with Third Parties
3.1 AI Large Language Model Services
You may choose an AI provider such as DeepSeek, Doubao, Qwen, or a custom endpoint and enter an API Key. After your consent, conversation text, speech transcripts, approved workspace excerpts, and summaries from profile or memory files may be sent to that provider. API Keys remain in your device Keychain. Changing the provider, endpoint, or model triggers consent again.
3.2 MarkNote Backend AI Service (Optional)
If you use our hosted service, conversation text, speech transcripts, and approved workspace excerpts are first sent to our servers and then forwarded to third-party model providers. We record usage metadata for billing and quota display and do not use conversation content for unrelated purposes.
3.3 Apple App Store (Paid Services)
Membership subscriptions and Token packs are paid through the Apple App Store. We only obtain and verify transaction receipts and identifiers to credit entitlements. This is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
3.4 Cloud Speech Recognition (Optional)
With your consent, microphone audio may be sent by WebSocket to Volcengine or Alibaba Cloud when you configure those services. Without a cloud provider, the App uses Apple on-device/system speech recognition.
3.5 Apple iCloud
If you choose an iCloud Drive workspace, Apple syncs files across your devices under the Apple Privacy Policy.
3.6 Other
- Apple Handoff: Passes the current document path between your devices without a third-party server.
- Live Activity / Widgets: Focus Mode timer information is shown in system UI and does not leave your device.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
- Workspace files: You manage and delete them in Files or Finder.
- Conversation history: Delete it in Settings → Conversation History → Clear Conversation History.
- API Keys and local settings: Change or clear them in Settings. Uninstalling removes device data but not iCloud workspace files.
- LLM context: The conversation side retains the most recent five turns within 24 hours and the same calendar day.
- Backend account data: Anonymous identifiers, quotas, balances, and purchase/consumption records are retained as needed for service and reconciliation. Contact us to request deletion; some records may be retained to meet legal or Apple requirements.
5. AI-Related Notes
- AI may read, write, or delete workspace files. The App asks for confirmation before deletions or updates to
profile.md; other writes may be performed directly. - AI output is for reference and does not constitute professional advice. Verify important decisions.
- Do not store passwords, secret keys, or similarly sensitive information in conversations or your workspace.
6. Minors
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Guardians who believe information has been handled improperly should contact us.
7. Policy Updates
We may update this policy from time to time. Updated versions are released with App updates and marked with an effective date. We may prompt you to review material changes.
